Our visa for Malaysia was 90 days which provided much more flexibility than our 30 day Philippines visa. As a result, we were able to take our time a bit more and started off by spending seven days in Kota Kinabalu to relax, recharge, and complete our PADI Scuba Diving Certifications. Our instructor, Melly, was actually from Alberta, Canada and had been diving for about 9 years. She was lots of fun and extremely knowledgeable! We did our dives in the Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park (TAR Park). Diving takes much more concentration than it seems from photos and movies, but once you get the hang of it, it is very enjoyable – especially when you see amazing sea creatures! On our first dive, Franki, Ranah, and I saw a sea turtle and sting ray!
Besides completing our PADI Course, we also watched the new movie, “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them”, saw a night market, morning Sunday market, Kota Kinabalu Wetland Centre, the City Mosque, and had sunset drinks on top of the Grandis Hotel.
