3:30am my alarm sounded. Franki, Ranah, Wiebke, and I had decided to watch the sunrise at Mt. Kiltepan and the hike to get there took about 45 minutes. We met Wiebke at 4:00am and started hiking. Along part of the road before the trail several dogs aggressively barked at us, but we survived.
The sunrise was magnificent! About 40 Filipino people were also there to watch. It was definitely worthwhile.
Later that morning, we did the Cave Connection Tour which reminded me of the one I did in Belize called Actun Tunichil Muknal. It was a 40 min walk to the Lumiang Burial Entrance and we passed by the Dokiw Hanging Coffins on the way. At the opening of the cave are more coffins and further inside you can see skeletal remains. The tour was adrenaline packed and all Ranah, Franki, and I brought were our headlamps, and a bit of money in a plastic bag. We wore bathing suits under our clothes and I brought my GoPro as well. However, it was difficult taking pictures in such a dark place.
We spent 4 hours in the caves, exploring, seeing bats, jumping into cave lakes, and looking at all the different rock formations and fossils.
Upon exiting the caves at the Sumaguing entrance, the three of us were starving! We happened to come across a lovely zero-waste vegetarian and vegan restaurant called Gaia while walking back to our hostel. Their spaghetti squash was out-of-this-world!
